Our programme fees & au pair salary

At Au Pair Link, we offer two tailored au pair programmes: Mate and Whiz. Each programme caters to different levels of experience and family needs. The Mate programme is ideal for families seeking a supportive, hands-on au pair, while Whiz is designed for families looking for a more experienced au pair to assist with more advanced responsibilities.

Mate au pair

This includes:

  • Care of any age of children

  • 200+ hours childcare experience

  • Comprehensive screening, references, police and medical checks

  • Bespoke matching service

  • Online access to your personal APL account to view Au pair profiles

  • 20-40 hours of au pair work per week

  • 6 – 12 months placement

  • Au pair training and first aid course for your au pair

  • Employment agreement and payroll advice

  • Emergency number for support when needed

  • Au Pair Link handbook

  • Priority service for returning families

  • Industry leader with over 18 years experience – the first and largest of our kind in New Zealand

Whiz au pair

This includes:

  • Care of any age of children

  • 1 year’s full-time childcare experience with children or a recognised childcare qualification + childcare experience.

  • Comprehensive screening, references, police and medical checks

  • Bespoke matching service

  • Online access to your personal APL account to view Au pair profiles

  • 20-40 hours of au pair work per week

  • 6 – 12 months placement

  • Au pair training and first aid course for your au pair

  • Employment agreement and payroll advice

  • Emergency number for support when needed

  • Au Pair Link handbook

  • Priority service for returning families

* Our fees may change over time. To qualify for our return family discount, your last au pair placement must have started within the past 12 months.

Guarantee & rematch policy 

We understand that even with thorough planning and support, things don’t always go as expected.

We will replace your au pair and waive the placement fee, should your au pair fail to meet reasonable expectations and after mediation has been conducted in good faith by both parties. If your placement term is under 3 months then we will honour this rematch policy within the first 4 weeks of your placement. If your placement term is 4-12 months we will honour this rematch policy in the first 6 weeks of your placement. Au Pair Link reserves the right to withdraw this offer if you or your family have breached any of our terms and conditions you will be required to sign when you host an au pair through us.

If we’re unable to secure a suitable replacement within 30 days of notification, you have the option to discontinue the search and request a refund under our fair refund policy. Please note, the refund policy applies only to the initial placement.

Weekly au pair salary

Every au pair receives weekly wages – and a $20 completion bonus per week after au pairing for 6 months.

The combined value of the au pair’s weekly payment, accommodation, and meals must meet New Zealand’s minimum wage requirements and be paid in full each week, regardless of the number of childcare hours provided. Based on this, we’ve outlined the following salary guidelines:

We don’t charge a registration fee and offer a money-back guarantee.

Getting Started: No Activation or Registration Fee

Once you submit your application, we’ll schedule a consultation to discuss your family’s needs. There is no activation or registration fee at this stage, so you can begin your search with no upfront costs.

Aftercare: Full Support Through Your Au Pair Journey

Our commitment doesn’t end with placement. We offer continuous support, with regular check-ins and assistance if your au pair chooses to extend their stay beyond six months.

Money-Back & Free Replacement Guarantee

Your satisfaction is our priority! If your au pair doesn’t meet your expectations and our support hasn’t improved the placement, we offer a 6-week free replacement guarantee. We’ll match you with another candidate at no extra cost. If, for any reason, we’re unable to find a suitable replacement, we’ll offer a money-back guarantee, ensuring your family’s peace of mind throughout the process.
